My Practice
I am an experienced therapist and member of the professional body of the British Association of Counsellors and Pyschotherapists (BACP), and Association for Independent Practitioners (AIP), and use Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approaches to suit individual needs. I currently work in two counselling centres, Herts MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Therapy Centre in addition to undertaking short term Primary Care Trust (PCT) counselling. I have also worked with the Road Victims Trust in Bedfordshire, supporting the bereaved, the driver or those injured after a road traffic fatality.
I offer both long and short term therapy, once or twice weekly.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy/ Counselling looks to the past to see how unconsciously we may re-enact former relationships in current behaviour and use engrained patterns of responding when feeling under pressure. Childhood relationships with parents and significant others are explored as well as the client/ therapist relationship.
Person-Centred Counselling holds the belief that everyone has the ability to self-actualise, i.e. grow to their full potential if given the right conditions. I endeavour to offer a therapeutic experience in a peaceful setting by being empathic, open, honest and non-judgemental. My objective is to help you to find and develop your inner resources so that you may become more aware of choices and ways you may want to change.
CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) is problem focused and structured. It encourages client independence from the therapist in learning approches to solve problems. The belief is that the client is expert in the self and the therapist has the knowledge and skills of therapy. By working collaboratively in a genuine open relationship, the focus is on the environment, thoughts, moods, behaviour and physical reactions. As they all interact, change in one will affect others.
